Pre-Game Show: Enter the Dragon (Picard)

François Picard. The man at the centre of the storm. Of all the members of the executive running for re-election, Picard is the one who is the most threatened. Granted, this means nothing. There are no polls. There are no exit polls. There is no real way to measure how well a candidate is doing, except for a "feeling."

And people have that "feeling". That Julie Séguin ran a very visible campaign. How does François Picard feel at this point? "Honestly, I'm zen. I'm confident that I will win." Any predictions? "No."

He brought forward the idea of the campaign, basically the only idea that stands out. To bring back General Assemblies to the SFUO. Regardless of where someone stands on the political spectrum, the idea of General assemblies is a seductive one. If the executive or the board are too slanted towards one side, students could call a General assembly and overturn that decision. What a concept. Students able to change things more than once a year.

There are issues surrounding the idea. What would the quorum be? How often would they be held? Etc. But regardless how you look at it, and whether you agree with it or not, it is the only idea that really stands out. Not just for the VP Communications portfolio, but for all portfolios.

When Kennery/Wood/Larose say there was no real controversy, what they really mean is that there was no real debate. Most candidates agreed on everything. The main distinction between candidates is personality. Not ideas. Not experience. Personality.

And basically that is what it comes down to. François Picard's great idea, or Julie Séguin's great enthousiasm. "My first year was strong. My second year will be stronger." And just like that Picard poses for the Camera and gets ready to do a few more class presentations.

This blog is dangerously pro-Picard. And his confidence is misplaced... Lets see some variation in who gets promoted! Or do we even have to? Do blogs conform to journalistic integrity?

:D

Dear Austin Menyasz,

You are invited to the Dojo.

In the UniCentre, for a one on one. We have more than 30 minutes for your interview.

I appreciate your concern about my journalism integrity. We are also dangerously Pro-Kennery, Pro-Wolfe, Pro-Horton, Pro-Séguin, and Pro-Anyone who shows up.

I can also be Pro-Austin Menyasz if you make your way down to the UniCentre.
