By-election campaign: The Dean Machine™ kicks into high gear

It was a matter of time before The Dean Machine™ was going to shift gears, and it seems to have done just that this morning with the release of this video and the planned rally at the Lounge area in the UCU.

The rally is set for 12:50 in the Lounge area at the UCU. The Dean Machine™ is expecting about 100 people. Should be interesting.

Polls are now open. More information to come later on today.

I love it! I think Dean proposes a real concrete idea and as he has proven in the past, I have no doubt that he will be able to get results out of this goal.

I do hope that this "lounge" they are referring to is not within 20 meters or sight of a polling station.

NEVER EVER compare Rick Mercer to Stewart or Colbert! The Rick Mercer Report is nothing but "On The Road Again" without a guitar. Its not even real satire, just a bunch of ass kissing towards politicians. Real satirists do not go into the PM's house and play with their children.

He wasn't sucking up...he was passively agressively mocking him. Awesome!

but seriously, the Dean Machine was sooo ON today!! All through the UCU, the Library, outside... The word is out, and soon Dean will be in!

When it's very obvious that a candidate is going to win, it comes across as obnoxious when the team employs tactics that should be used in a close race.

what tactics? shouldnt he do it as best as he can?

The "tactic" was to get people to go out and vote! The point isn't to be obnoxious, or to win by a slandslide etc. It's the get out the vote. To do what everyone here has been talking about- ending voter apathy! Promoting democratic engagement. I wish all candidates made that a priority.

I don't think that holding a rally and spreading the word out to vote is a tactic. It show initiative by walking around and not only talking about his campaign, but at least getting students knowing about these elections. The fact remains that a huge percentage of the population is not aware of the elections as we normally do not have a by-election.

That being said, you can criticize as much as you want anonymous, but Dean was being proactive, talking to students and getting students to talk about the elections, which is what should be happening, but isn't necessarily happening outside of the politicly active circle.
